Seems like a simple thing?

#Headbadge: Seems like a simple thing, but to make it, you need some time.

Most custom bike frames have the manufacturer’s logo on the head tube, which can sometimes be a work of art. I started modestly, with a stainless steel logo. Is it an easy thing to do?

Firstly, a project in fusion360: I wanted to make “ready-made” logos for a laser cutter from a stainless steel pipe. Matching pipes’ innej dia with the external diameter of the headtube, I avoided bending the logo.

The laser cuts perfectly, but unfortunately leaves a few burrs, which must be manually removed.

Everything has to be perfectly cleaned and placed (evenly! – which is not easy because we cover the logo with a layer of flux, so from that moment, it is not easy to see) on the headtube.

Now it’s time for the “fun part”, which is brazing. Because the logo is stainless, silver solder must be capillarily spread between the two planes.

Then comes the less enjoyable part, which is cleaning: file, dremel, sandpaper… a few times, probably an hour or two of work.

When the frame returns from painting, it’s smooth sailing from there: masking, sanding, polishing. Well, but you could always use a sticker instead, right?
